BBC director general George Entwistle resigns.

The BBC, reeling from revelations that Jimmy Savile was a paedophile, brought further problems on its head when news program, Newsnight, aired a mistaken allegation that a former senior politician sexually abused children. Entwistle admitted he had not known in advance about the Newsnight report, this just weeks after being accused of being too hands-off over a previous scandal involving the same program.

Israel fires warning shots into Syria.

The internal struggle within Syria’s borders spilled out into Israel today, causing several rounds to hit an Israeli military outpost. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces fired one strategically placed tank shell, as a warning shot, to let Syria know to keep their in-fighting within their own borders. It’s the first time Israel has fired into Syrian borders since 1973, during the Yom Kippur War.
